James Arden Hodge, 96, of Berea, WV, departed this life on Tuesday, August 29, 2017, at Cedar Grove Assisted Living in Parkersburg, WV, surrounded by his loving family.

Arden was born March 9, 1921 in Auburn, WV, a son of the late Oakley and Hattie (Garner) Hodge. He began his working career, working in the oilfields of Ritchie County, WV. He then began a 20-year career employed at the former Ravens Metal of Elizabeth, WV where he worked as a saw operator until his retirement. Arden also spent his life as a dedicated farmer that he took great pride in. Arden was a proud WWII US Army veteran stationed in China, India, and the Burma Theater during the war achieving the rank as sergeant. He was a graduate of the former Pullman High School with the class of 1940, longtime member of the Pennsboro Church of Christ, lifetime member of Harris-Ritchie VFW #3554, and a member of the Ritchie County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his 3 daughters, Judy Doll (Marshall) of Greenwood, WV; Paula Waldo (Michael) of Bolivar, OH; & Martha Kay Kellar (Michael) of Harrisville, WV; 2 sons, David Hodge (Carolynn) of Harrisville, WV & Roger Hodge (Deanna) of Harrisville, WV; 4 granddaughters, Angie Michaels, Nikki Owens, Jessica Felton, & Alicia Moss; 7 grandsons, Kendall Hodge, Shawn Kellar, Tracy Hodge, Darren Waldo, Clinton Doll, Joey Waldo, & Justin Kellar; 8 great grandsons, 7 great granddaughters, 1 great great grandson, 1 great great granddaughter, along with loving nieces & nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Opal (Doak) Hodge who passed away on March 26, 2014, and his brothers, Harlan, Lloyd, Harold, & Floyd Hodge.

Funeral services will be 1pm, Saturday, September 2, 2017, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV with Evang. Terry Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery at Berea, WV where full military honors will be conducted by Harris-Ritchie VFW #3554. Visitation will be from 4pm-8pm on Friday, at the funeral home.
