He was born December 2nd, 1930 at Medina, OH, a son of the late Harlan Mahaney and Audrey (Riggs) Mahaney.
He attended Ellenboro Grade School and he graduated from Pennsboro High School with the class of 1948. In high school, he played football, basketball, and was a talented baseball pitcher. He was named to the all state baseball team and was offered a scholarship to WVU. He also had an offer to play for the Boston Braves.
He played and pitched in the first North/South baseball game which was held in Parkersburg, WV. He played and pitched for the Parkersburg Scotties semi pro team.
He served our country in the US Army as a tank driver, during the Korean War from 1952-1953. He was a member of the Williamstown American Legion Post 159, the VFW Post 5108 at Marietta, OH, and the 40 & 8 at Parkersburg, WV.
He was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman, and a loyal WVU fan.
On December 2, 1962 he married Sandra Hanlon. He, Sandra, and Cindy lived in Williamstown, WV and belonged to the First United Methodist Church. He retired from American Cyanamid, Willow Island, WV after 41 years as a process chemist.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra; daughter, Cindy Bush (Rex); a sister, Mary Lee Collins (Floyd), a granddaughter, Shannon Henderhan (Chris) a great grandson, Eli, and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother John Harlan (Jack)Mahaney, and a brother, Bobby Joe.
A memorial celebration service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Williamstown, WV on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at 11am with Rev. David Calvert and Rev. Leo Farley officiating. Burial will follow at the Wince Chapel Church Cemetery at Pike, WV with full military honors conducted. McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV is assisting the family with the arrangements.
