Phil Davis, 74, of Pennsboro, WV, died, Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at Marietta Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side.
He was born July 17, 1944, on the family farm near Pennsboro, WV the son of the late Agnes Leontine Primm Davis and Robert Clayton Davis. He was a graduate of Pennsboro High School with the class of 1962 and a graduate of Glenville State College. In addition, he attended West Virginia University, Parkersburg Community College and Mountain State College. Phil was retired from E I DuPont DeNemours & Co., Inc., Washington Works, Washington, WV; Alcoa Aluminum Research and Development, Upper Burrell, PA. He also worked for Koppers Technology, Monroeville, PA and Kenmac Inc, Pennsboro.
He enjoyed traveling around the world, camping and working on the family farm, which was established in 1814. Phil was a member of the Ritchie County 4-H, the Mountain Grange, the Squarenaders and the Log Cabin Squares western square dance clubs, an avid sports fan and a former slow-pitch softball catcher with a Wood County industrial league in the early 1970’s; member of the Ritchie County Historical Society; Palatines to America; Wood County Beef Association; associate member of the Harrisville Lions Club; a Clay District Director of the Ritchie County Farm Bureau, participator in the WV Farm Bureau’s resolutions committees; two-term Chairman and member of the Ritchie County Republican Executive Committee; member of the West Virginia Republican Executive Committee; member of the WV 2nd Senatorial Republican Executive Committee; member of the WV 7th Delegate Republican Executive Committee; President of the Wilbur Community Cemetery, Inc; President of the Wilbur Community Club, Vice-President of the Ritchie Area Spay-Neuter Outreach and a member of the Constitution Advocates.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Norma Rowe Davis; son, Alan R Davis (Melanie) of Pennsboro. Grandson Aidan R Davis, Morgantown; Adam R Davis Pennsboro, step-mother Delores A Jones Staats Davis of St Marys; one brother, Robert Larry Davis, Pennsboro; step-sisters, Barbara White (Fred) New Martinsville; Connie Guinn (Marty ) Marietta, OH; Janet Hall (Terry) Pennsboro; Aggie Hundley (Craig) Waterloo, Iowa; Cheryl Ridgway, St Marys, WV ; step-brothers Alan Staats (Barbara) Harpers Ferry WV; Bob Staats (Vickie) Seymour, IN; Brian Richards (Tammy) Pennsboro and David Richards (Jennifer) Williamstown; sister-in-law, Judy Taylor of Westport, WA; nieces, Michelle DeMetro (Tony); Laura Watts and nephew Daniel Davis all of Parkersburg. Step-nephews and nieces: Jeffery Staats, Anthony Ridgway, Brett Ridgway, Valerie White-Slider; Leslie White-Day; Tyler & Trent Hall, Tasha Hall Davis; Dustin Ross, Lynnaya Ross, Ryan Richards; Lindsey Richards - Oblinger as well as several great nieces and nephews and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother Jenna Jones Richards Davis; his beloved grandson Andrew R Davis, maternal grandparents, Harry Nathan Primm and Hattie Collins Primm. Paternal grandparents, Charles Wesley Davis and Lessie Mae George Davis.
Funeral services will be 11am, Saturday, September 8, 2018, at the McCullough-Rogers Funeral Home, Pennsboro, WV with Pastor Chad Kopshina and Rev. Mary Weaver officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Wilbur Cemetery in Tyler County, WV. Visitation will be from 2pm-8pm on Friday, at the funeral home.
