Obituary

Shirley Ruth Layfield, 75, of Cairo, WV, departed this life on Friday, June 23, 2017, at Pine View Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Harrisville, WV.
Shirley was born October 14, 1941 in Petroleum, WV, a daughter to the late Clarence E. and Edna Irene (Todd) Morrison. She spent the majority of her working career as a loving and devoted homemaker for her family. She also worked a short time at the Cairo garment factory and ran the kitchen at the North Bend Golf Course. Over the years, Shirley spent many days watching the kids play ball in the family yard and as her sons grew older, made many trips to watch them play ball. Shirley was a member of the Cisco Community Church, was a former member of the Cairo Garden Club & the Cairo Senior Citizens, a longtime 4H leader in the community, and loved to play Bingo.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Roydice Layfield who were united in marriage on June 7, 1959; sons, Ernie Layfield of Parkersburg, WV and Rodney Layfield (Becky) of Little Hocking, OH; grandchildren, Cassidi Shoaf (Justin) of Marietta, OH and Carter Layfield of Ashville, NC; great grandchildren, Aviella & Judah Shoaf; siblings, Laveda Marshall (Doc) of Petroleum, WV; Tom Morrison (Jo) of Lowell, OH; Nina Hartness of Harrisville, WV; Bessie Cornell of Cairo, WV; Rose Lee (Jim) of Petroleum, WV; brother and sister in laws, Carolyn Boston of Petroleum, WV; Luke Layfield of Elizabeth, WV; Lucille Williams (Jed) of Harrisville, WV, along with many loving nieces and nephews.
A private family burial will take place in the Cairo IOOF Cemetery at the convenience of the family. The family has planned a casual gathering of friends and family on Sunday, July 2, 2017 from 12pm-5pm at the Cairo Community Building. Raiguel Funeral Home, Harrisville, WV is assisting the family with the arrangements.
